Slowly Bidding My Soaps A Fond Farewell...

I've really been trying to hang in there just because of tradition. You see, since I was a little girl &let me tell you, that's been some decades ago...I've loved soap operas. It was watching with my mama... Days of our lives, Guiding light, All My Children and my all time favorite soaps? As The World Turns & The Guiding Light that caused me to grow up wanting to emmulate a cool, calm ,collected Kim Hughes of As the world turns; Reva Shane's realationship with Josh Lewis... all the drama had to come with! But, the biggest kicker came when I, a proud, African-American woman whose nickname during my high school days reflected the activism of  Angela Davis, and her very cool afro...

Anyhow, that's how down I am about who I am, so it wasn't an identify thing, nooo, my love for the soaps were the illusion that love conquers all...women could have dinner ready for their men & look sexy and glamorous while doing it! and the kicker I spoke of? At the age of 20-something, I actually went in search of a beauty salon to have them cut my long, coarse mane of hair, perm it and give it that short 'do' Barbara Ryan's character in As the world turns sported so well.

As time passed. Divorce came calling. The children became adults who would go out to create/live out their own soap operas in the world and I found less time for my favorite pasttime. I'd given up All my children after Jesse&Angie, Luke&Laura left Pine Valley... Palmer &Tad got old like me and Erica Kane's coyness began to grate on my nerves.

Sadly, Ihad all but said goodbye to all the soaps, yet, struggled still to try to remain true to The Guiding Light, but, that feel good vibe is slowly starting to wan. You see, if Josh goes and marry Reva's sister. Becomes a pastor and loses Reva for good...What's the use? Harley leaves town after Gus dies...and why did Gus have to die? I'm always glad for Billie Lewis, but, what's he about these days?

I suppose the reality of life is that life is about change...Sooo, it goes without saying that in an ever changing world, nothing, or, no one stays the same...Some of us even become wiser with age...

Hi Clara,

I know exactly how you feel!  I'm been hanging in there with "The Young and the Restless" but still wondering what the heck is going on?

How many times can they break up Nicki and Victor and not implode the blasted show?  Still I remain...a loyal viewer.  But one who fast forwards through any plot that doesn't interest her.

BTW, I love bargain antique shopping as well.  :)
