Smart Food Choices after Overindulging
Smart Food Choices are those that really do bear repeating -- especially after the overindulgence of Thanksgiving and the overall long weekend. If you've tried to keep within the range of good eating habits and somehow "blew it" on this day or weekend, all is not lost. It is just a matter of finding your way back to Healthy Eating After Overindulging!
Another thing to remember in the quest to lose weight, lower cholesterol, ensure proper eye protection and simply doing one's best to protect against disease for example takes more than one single food, but a variety too. And if counting calories is your thing, don't discount the good complex carbohydrates over the simple, processed ones.
Did you know that all simple carbs are quickly digested and also give us the "most bang for your buck" when it comes to providing the quickest source of energy? The think to consider though, is that most of these simple carbohydrates are full of calories and also have few if any nutritional value! The best bet -- concentrate your carb eating efforts on complex carbohydrates that actually provide substantial nutrition and are also filling like:
- Dark, green leafy vegetables
- Whole grains and foods made from them, such as oatmeal, pasta, and whole-grain breads
- Starchy vegetables that include potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn, and pumpkin
- Beans, lentils, and peas
Choose your foods with care to ensure that you are getting all the complex carbohydrates your body needs while at the same time getting your fair share of vitamins, minerals and fiber. Being smart about what you eat also leaves some room for an occasional food "slip-up". I'm sure that has happened to all of us!
