I read Mir's blog on the topic of Obama's smoking and commented on it. I think it was only yesterday. I had commented that I really felt it was none of my business if a person wants to smoke. When I went back today there was a new comment. This comment pointed out that smoking is a matter of public concern because, while it is some other person's CHOICE to smoke, the non-smoker does not CHOOSE to inhale second-hand smoke.

Point taken. And added thought. I am fine with a person wanting to smoke because I generally don't have to deal with the second-hand smoke. Most of the businesses in my area don't allow smoking inside. No skin off my nose, right? But then, that comment started my thoughts. Off and running. What about the children of smokers. The smoker, even if smoking was banned in all public places, would be subjecting their children to second-hand smoke. And so I can see the point. When one person's choice is interfering with another person's choice, where do we draw the line?

Force the smokers to only smoke at home? Stop making cigarettes altogether? This gets into some muddy water, I think.

We all know that smoking is bad for your health, but I'll be honest; I have not a clue what the information says about second-hand smoke in relation to health consequences. Perhaps someone could help me out on that?

And what are your thoughts?
