In a number of speeches across this fine nation, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has been delivering awkward recitations of "America the Beautiful" lyrics. What's more awkward, for his campaign, might be the actual source:

"Mitt Romney has been frequently quoting “America the Beautiful” in his speeches. What he may not know is that the song was written in 1893 by Wellesley College professor, poet, and social activist Katherine Lee Bates—who lived with and shared her life with another woman, fellow Wellesley professor Katherine Coman."

So what? Why does it matter what sexual orientation the composer was? Why does it matter if Romney is a Mormon? The composer is just a person and so is Romney. Americans are so caught up on the lifestyles of everyone else. It's pathetic. There is no irony in this fact at all. It's just useless and mindless information.

Further, although the Mormon faith is frequently associated with Utah, Salt Lake City, or BYU, many reports show Salt Lake City as one of the highest in same sex couples. There are probably many paradoxes when it comes to sources of quotes, juxtapositions of "positions," etc. during an election year.
