2013 Poetry Challenge: Memorize One Poem Each Month

Featured BlogHer Network Post

I have to confess that the first thing I did when I read Jenna's post was to laugh. No, it's not because I thought her resolution for her family to memorize one poem a month is funny or silly, but rather that I almost made the same resolution myself. I love it! I also love how she was inspired to make it after reading Joshua Foer's book Moonwalking with Einstein. I moving Foer's book up my to be read list. I'm also going to seek out some books of poetry to get my own memorization workout started. "Last fall, as I began thinking about changes we could make around here, new things to add, ways to change our systems, what we could do without, I remembered with fondness our days of regular poetry memorization and I knew I wanted it back in my children's lives. Especially since the two that live here at home are the ones that were either not on earth yet, or too young to really participate.

When I was a homeschooling mom (I miss those days!) part of our regular routine was to memorize one poem, one scripture, and one hymn a month."
