My Daughter Is Sad Because God Is a Boy

Editor's Note: One thing I've learned that kids do quite well is make parents scratch their heads, think outside of the box and seek answers that they might not have known needed seeking. Wendy Thomas Russell had a conversation that made her delve deeper into the whys and wherefores of God's gender. While for some parents and kids, it may be a non-issue, it was an issue for her daughter. How would you respond? -Jenna

God's Alleged Gender Proves Problematic for Some Parents:

“Are you okay?” I asked.

“I’m sad,” she said.

“Why are you sad?” I asked.

“Because,” she said, “God is a boy and not a girl.”

“How do you know?”

“I just know,” she said, glumly.

“And why does that make you sad?”

“Because,” she said. “I’m a girl.”
