Gratitude in Action: The Supermarket Story

This tale is one part parental love and another pure humanity. The simple slice-of-daily-life story is a reminder of what Thanksgiving Day is all about, the expression and celebration of gratitude:

"You could tell that the homeless woman was feeling embarrassed as she looked around at us – aside from her, there were 3 of us who had witnessed her humiliation: an Asian man, me, and a very old woman who had fallen asleep. I grabbed my computer and left quickly. She probably thought I was leaving because of her. I zoomed over to the Starbucks counter and bought her a $25 gift card. I felt like I had to do something to offset the degradation she probably feels every single day. I didn’t really know what to do with the card – I didn’t want to embarrass her. I went back to where she was and approached the table...."
