Having "passion" and "perseverance" for "long term goals" in teaching have NOTHING to do with "retention" or "effectiveness." That "effectiveness" is a bunch of shit anyway since it is strictly up to a student to learn and "effectiveness" and "passion" are in the eyes of the beholder. The truth is whether or not you remain a teacher has largely to do with what kind of principal you have. Preparation for the job, the kids, and the parents all play a factor, but if you have a bad principal, you're cooked every which way since a principal can literally kill your career and suffer no consequences for his or her actions.If you have one of those rare principals who actually knows something about teaching and cares about whether you succeed, you will make it as a teacher. . . .
