The Bushes are Just Regular People Like You and Me

Featured BlogHer Network Post

The dedication of the George W. Bush Library last week was interesting, as there were five living presidents together -- both Republican and Democrat. BlogHer Just Jess in ATX attended the dedication in Dallas. She has an interesting perspective as a native Texan, the granddaughter of a JFK Democrat... and a proud Republican. Here's part of her observations:

...I was so incredibly proud of Texas, of SMU, and of W. I was moved to tears (literally) as I saw George H.W. Bush (41) begin to speak proudly about his son, only after W. told him, “it’s on Daddy,” as he fiddled with his microphone. Despite his frailty, he struggled to stand up from his chair and was given an ovation.

I was moved as W. gave his speech, professing his love for his wife and girls, and his new granddaughter. Then he got choked up with emotion at the end and it was clear that this Library meant so much to him, both as a President and as a person. But more importantly that his parents were alive to see it.

He’s a regular guy at the end of the day, just like me, just like you. At the end of the day, politics aside, we are all human beings with thoughts and feelings
