Here is an interesting article although it does not go into all the tumultuous circumstances which were involved in the decision to expel from Spain all Jews who would not convert to Christianity. In Isabel's time religious unity was seen as the key to political unity. Although the biography of the Queen by William Thomas Walsh has sometimes been accused of being anti-Semitic, Walsh details most sympathetically the sufferings of the Jewish people after they left Spain. . . .
