It's Stressful to Be Cheap
By Taming Insanity on December 19, 2011
I laughed when I read this post by KLZ, because I totally identify with her. My own debt freak-outs come at regular intervals, and I've spent about half of my adult life convinced I'd be out on the street at any minute, no matter how much money I have in the bank. It's been a real challenge for me to accept I'm not going to be able to control my finances all the time -- the world, unfortunately, sometimes intervenes.
I wanted to hug her when she wrote:
Money to me is not about stuff, it's about safety. Money in the bank means I can afford to replace our roof if needed. It means I can pay hospital bills should they arise when, oh say, my husband unexpectedly comes down with meningitis.
The point I'm trying to convey is, being cheap is fucking stressful.
