Rupert Everett as Charles I Olivia Williams as Lady Anne Fairfax Tim Roth as Cromwell and Dougray Scott as Sir Thomas Fairfax Although I enjoyed the 1970 flick Cromwell much more, particularly Alec Guinness as Charles I, I think that the more recent film To Kill a King is worth a watch. Once again we are shown how, in overthrowing a perceived "tyrant," the Puritan Oliver Cromwell becomes more a tyrant than Charles I ever dreamed of being. The film has been criticized for portraying Cromwell as a madman addicted to murder; as far as his behavior in Ireland goes, such a portrayal is not far from the truth. . . .
