Let's Shop at the "Buy A Girl" Store!

BlogHer Spotlight

[Editor's note: I know it sounds bad, but “buy a girl” is not what you think. Jenn Savedge at Mother Nature Network was alarmed by the name, too, until she realized it was a wonderful nonprofit venture in New York that helps educate girls. Who would have guessed?--Mona]

She writes:

According to The Girl Store website, only three out of 10 girls who enroll in the first grade in India are still enrolled by the 10th grade. By that time, most girls have been forced to quit school to help with household chores, have been married off in an arranged marriage, or have been sold or traded into child slavery operations.

Still, do you think they should change the name?
