Apple has announced the death of Steve Jobs and though this was not unexpected, many of us are reeling from the news. None more so than those who lived in his neighborhood, like BlogHer Contributing Editor Lisen Stromberg

The business press, the general press, the blogosphere, and just about everybody else has waxed poetic about the “greatest CEO of all time” saying that this “boy wonder” has shaped the very nature of our lives with his genius.

It’s all true, but here in Palo Alto, Steve Jobs isn’t just an icon, he’s also the guy who lives down the street.

Read more about Lisen's neighbor, Steve Jobs and share your own tributes.

Steve Jobs made me a better mom. His creative spirit reminds me to appreciate and nurture all the joys and frustrations of childhood, because therein lies the genius of invention, the engine of progress and the simple joy of life.

I spent many years working in the television business. Because of Steve Jobs, I can carry TV around with me in my purse. See our tribute to Steve Jobs on The Flaming Nose, along with what is often considered the greatest TV commercial of all time; the 1984 Apple spot.

What an amazing man - I have never seen another in recent history who could sell something that we didn't even know we needed and now cannot live without.

I'm a long-time Steve Jobs admirer and saddened by the tremendous loss the world has suffered in Steve's untimely death. Here are two stories I've written about my love affair with Apple products and the life of Steve Jobs:

My heart is breaking for his family, intimate friends and colleagues.

I'm grateful Steve Jobs's vision and companies gave me and my family so much to believe in, enjoy and be inspired by -- at work, at home and, via Pixar, in the heart. As Melissa said, "Goodnight, Steve."

This just in from another BlogHer who asked me to post for her: http://ericastaab.com/2011/10/06/wisdom-from-steve...

The wizard of Silicon Valley is gone. How fitting that the sky here in the valley has been filled with rainbows all day. It's horrible that he died so young, but I hope he was at peace knowing that he changed the way we see and hear our world. I cried when I heard the news too.

Too soon. Much too soon. My equipment lust was sparked by him and Woz. Blessing to the family and his co-workers. Truly a gifted man.

I'm not ashamed that this news has made me cry. It's a loss to his friends and family, and a loss to the world.

Rest in peace, Steve. And thank you for everything you did.

When I compare the decades of my life before Steve Jobs to those since Steve Jobs, I can truly say his genius changed the world.

In your attempt to honor Steve Jobs - the unfortunate reality is you're capitalizing on his death. Between the tweets last night of this blog post touting that a BlogHer contributing editor was his neighbor (why is that relevant?!?!) and then a newsletter sent to me at midnight (?!?!) "Goodnight Steve Jobs"...Women Blog Tributes with Lisa Stone's smiling face - it's beyond repulsive - as the only purpose - is to direct traffic to your website. Not ANYWHERE on BlogHer.com have I been able to find info that Apple released - "If you would like to share your thoughts, memories, and condolences, please email rememberingsteve@apple.com" Instead you all what - scrambled together with phone calls and emails late at night and hobbled together a "tribute email" and numerous blog posts that only...direct traffic to your website - putting the focus on BlogHer. At the end of the day - yes - he was a visionary - but he was also a man who left behind a wife and children ...do remember that the next time you think to capitalize on someone's death.

May he rest in peace. But I think some of the comments about him are a bit farfetched.
