The Rule of Thirds is the basis for balance in your photographs. Though the rules of composition can be bent on occasion, the Rule of Thirds is a great place to start when learning how to take a well-composed photo.

The Rule of Thirds encourages you to take an image and divide it into nine equal parts. This is done by creating two equally-spaced horizontal lines and two equally-spaced vertical lines in your image or viewfinder.
