From Plastic Animal Toy to Kitschy Pin Cushion
By Small Good Things on May 15, 2012
[Editor's Note: Everything is better with ball fringe, including alpaca. Not only do I have a soft spot for ball fringe I also adore just about anything made with kitschy plastic animal toys. You thought they were just good for teaching toddlers about the animals of the world when all this time you could have been making them into wall hooks, book ends and pincushions. Emi from Small Good things had the creative vision to see beyond the toy and transform this alpaca into something downright adorable and functional. - Jen]
Sure this pin cushion was made with a tongue firmly planted into a cheek, but that does not mean he won’t dutifully work for the busy seamstress. Emi had this to say about the actual pom pom that you stick your pins in: "For the pin cushion, I’m using a needle & wet felted ball (wool felt will keep needles rust free), but you can use any type of pin cushion as long as it’s small enough for your plastic pal.
