Surprisingly, Devoted Group of Women Defend Oscar Pistorious

Editor's Note: Today comes news that a South African judge has eased the bail restrictions on Oscar Pistorius, who is accused of murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, allowing the Olympic sprinter to leave the country for competitions. This adds a new wrinkle to the already bizarre case but it's probably a welcome development for “Pistorians” - a self-appointed group of women who make it their life’s mission to defend Pistorius.  In the wake of so much coverage about violence against women, why would this group so passionately defend Pistorious? Amanda Marcotte from the Raw Story attempts to answer the question. ~js

Obviously, even if someone is a “slut” and a cheater, that does not justify murdering her. But my point is that I suspect that’s what Pistorians are stabbing at, but they’re just reluctant to say it, and thus the muddled garbage they spout.
