[Editor's Note: This week, Oakland and other cities arrested protesters in the #Occupy movement, and everyone from Will Smith to Michael Moore continues to talk about "the 1%" -- the richest Americans, whose income continues to increase even during a recession. There's even a game app that posits the player as a member of the 1% whose goal is to Clear the Park of protesters. So who are the 1%? Tiger Beatdown broke it down, showing us how wealthy the 1% are and how most of them make their money. -- Julie]
There’s considerable confusion circulating over who is in the top 1% in the United States, with a constant barrage of numbers that seem to shift depending on source, agenda, and timing. These are often used as derails, and it’s easy to derail with arguments about how to define the top 1% in the United States, because there are a number of different ways to look at it, all of which are valid.
