Waste Not Want Not - Wooden Blinds Peacock Craft

Featured BlogHer Network Post

[Editor's Note: Next time you buy wooden blinds and are thinking of discarding the extra at the bottom, think again. A Girl With a Glue Gun came up with a fabulous way to reuse and improve them. Kim was a guest blogger over on So You Think You’re Crafty and shared a great tutorial for up-cycling extra wooden blinds. All you need is some craft paint, chalk, stencil and of course some extra wooden blinds and you are all set. - Jen]

Peacock Painting Tutorial

One of my favorite parts of this project is the peacock like ombre effect Kim gave the blinds. She explains the process like this: "this process is super easy. (pinky promise) i start at the top…with yellow/green. mix them with my brush and paint the first…now you don’t clean your brush (if you have a bunch of paint on it you can wipe it off but don’t clean it!) then you put a dallop of the next color of paint and work it in (so i added more green..no more yellow) and then the next color is a darker green mixed with the light green…then the next one is the dark green alone…the next one is the dark green mixed with blue…then more blue and less green…etc…."
