I haven’t been carrying it long, the tote bag in the turquoise that always cheers me up at least a little, but it sags emptily against the wall in the hallway. My shoulder still aches from the days of the overflowing bag: wipes and alternate meals and distractions upon distractions, even after the diapers were gone. It’s foreign, but being more familiar every day, to leave the house with a bag that I can swing in one hand. . . .
