Barnyard Salon: Alpaca Shearing Day

Featured BlogHer Network Post

Editor's Note: Deb's account of shearing her nine Alpacas is a fascinating peek into how the animals' fibers are painlessly removed, especially the "blanket" area. The results are wrapped in paper and stored to eventually be made into super-soft yarn, hats and socks. Thankfully, along with a professional shearer, her mind-reading mom was also on hand to help: -- Heather

She also helped move our dramatic Alpacas that went limp on the floor and refused to get up. We have several of these. And if you ever have the privilege to try to get an Alpaca to stand up when it does not want to stand up you will also have sore fingernails as my mother did the next day. It’s hard to explain so just take my word for it.
