So, I'm going. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I'd be able to go. It's just not in my budget. It was so far out of the realm of the possibility as to be considered virtually impossible for me.
And then... the miraculous happened.
I won something.
The Queen of Spain held this little contest. Little? No, HUGE! She was giving away a free registration for BlogHer '09. Wow. Just wow.
I decided to enter. Didn't think I stood any chance of winning. I mean... I never win anything!
The winner was to be announced on Monday, January 5th.
I got up that morning and puttered around the house, as usual. Got online, checked my Twitter (always check the Twitter first!) and then checked my email.
There was an "approve comment" message waiting in my inbox. So I jumped over to my blog to see what the message was. "Congratulations! I’m looking forward to meeting you in person at BlogHer 09!"
Huh? Wha-.... wow...
Rushed over to The Queen of Spain's blog.... sure enough, there it was! A post... Gwynne is going to BlogHer!
Whoa... whoa... whoa..
Then came the realization that I had to find a way to get there and the funds for hotel and everything else associated.
I have no clothing to wear. Literally... I own one pair of jeans. Three t-shirts. And the rest of my clothes are sweatpants. That's it. I need to buy clothes for the conference. And a camera. And pay for the hotel... and a train trip there and back...
Oh boy... how? I made $9883 last year. And I'm a single mom!
So... I started raising funds on my blog. In my first day... I've raised over $85. About 10% of the way to what I've set as a goal for BlogHer funds. Yeah, I can do this. I can so do this!
