So You Think You Can Garden: A Beginner's Adventure in Growing Edibles
This year, we planted our first edible garden! It's doing extremely well now, but not without a few bumps:
Everything we started by seed indoors died from lack of sun, so we ended up purchasing starter plants of: Cilantro, Dill, Tomatoes, Peppers
We have 2 carrots slowly popping up, but they aren't doing as near well as we thought they would!
And a few nasty storms took some baby plantings.
BUT here is some good stuff you might like to know about our garden:
We have 4 raised beds; it is indeed wise to start small on your first garden. We would like to put in at least 2 more beds in the future, now that we know for ourselves how awesome having a garden is ;).
Our beds are made of untreated cedar fence posts that my husband put together. (I'll have to do a TBT on that one!) We're very happy with them so far.
Our beds run North to South, the bed most North has the taller plants- tomatoes and pepper plants.
The next bed has potatoes and onions. The third bed has broccoli, cauliflower, and I believe zucchini (we'll see ;)), along with our almost non-existent carrots. And the last, South most bed has cantaloupe, spinach, and various types of lettuce.
Lastly, we'd definitely recommend purchasing soaker-hoses and a hose splitter; helps the roots go deep.
Thanks for those, mom & dad :).
As our gardening continues, look forward to more details and help in future posts!
