You might be wondering what your next computer purchase should be. You might even be wondering if the information you are being given at the store is honest and accurate. So I'm here to help you when you are pondering whether or not to buy a PC or Mac. There are links throughout to help you with more information directly to the Apple website.

Here are the main differences between the PC and Mac:

1. When you install a programme onto your PC it creates a folder with multiple files and folders in it.Then when you open the Programme it always takes a minute or longer to load because it has to locate all the files necessary to run the it. It's basically like baking a cake. You have to find all the ingredients and mix them together in the correct order to get the right result.  Then when and if you decide to delete the programme, you will see that it takes a couple minutes to delete it because again it has to locate them all.  Except really it doesn't delete them all.  If you were to go into your programme files right now you will find many randomly named folders and inside them are bits and pieces of files and folders with names like 'a0d7jkd'.  PC's are unable to full delete a programme.  Which causes your PC to start running slower.

Now on a Mac, when you install a programme it is ONE FILE.  Mac treats programmes as though they are a cake you bought at the store.  There is no locating ingredients, mixing them up and baking them to get the cake to come out right.  It's already done right. So when it loads the programme it does not take long to load at all because it's one file in one location not all spread out.  This holds true for deleting it, you will not have to worry about pieces of it being left behind.

I service both Mac and PC's.

Much of this article and in the comments below are Mac-Biased and based on Mac Mythology.

For example:

"On a PC you will notice if you have multiple programmes running at the same time your computer runs slower and slower until typically it will freeze up and you will have to ctrl+alt+del to close whatever has froze up."

This is true for any computer. The hardware which controls this is called RAM. If you have a lot of RAM, you can run more programs simultaneously. If not, you can't.

Another myth was that MAC software consists of ONE file. Nothing could be farther from the truth. MAC programs contain many files just like Windows.

Another was that Mac’s do not get viruses. This was only partially true when Mac’s had only 5% per cent of the market. With a larger market share, the number of infected Mac’s increased. The bad guys now have Mac’s in their sights.

I could go on....

However, if any one is thinking about paying hundreds of dollars more for an Apple machine as compared a Windows machine, I'd look elsewhere for purchasing advice.

It's funny because as a tech geek, I love Mac because it tends to run better than my PCs in the past. But as a daughter, I love Mac because it's the first computer that my mom understands how to use. Something about that UI that really is welcoming versus Windows.

I vote Mac...I don't think I will ever go back to a PC. Too many problems and they don't last long. In the long run Mac's are worth the extra $$.

I started out with a PC, then moved to Apple. Even though it was refurbished and a year old when I got it, i've had it for three years now. I've upgraded the RAM and just bought a new battery since mine is losing its ability to recharge, but I'm hoping to get another two years out of it before I purchase another one. $1000 for 5 years = $.55 per day of use, and with how much I use my computer that's a pretty good bargain!

Mac hands down. I grew up with Apple, switched to PC and now I am back. I was constantly "fixing" or replacing my PCs. This MAc is going on 6 years and going strong!

A mac is a pc built by intel, blinged up by jobs for a stupid price. My eeepc701 sd is a hackintosh and runs better with lion than a few mates imacs

Delores, This is true, but Mac malware is on the rise. Mac users would be wise to be vigilant and not just assume "It can't happen to me". Note that a lot of the current bad stuff is coming in through email and websites, where they can often work on both platforms just as well.
