Some Kind of My Wonderful
So I was clicking around the television the other day (the issue with having a million channels to choose from is that most times, there is nothing worth of interest on), when a movie I hadn't seen in a long time but closely identified with was on.,
John Hughes' "Some Kind of Wonderful".
Missed that one? Remember Eric Stoltz, Mary Stuart Masterson and Lea Thompson star as a trio of star-crossed teens who represent the wrong side of the tracks and what someone will do to cross over to a better life.
And that of course got me to thinking, how many times when I was young, even today, have I done things that would try to get me out of where I felt I was stuck in my life and get me over to the other side.
Thompson represented the pretty girl who felt she had to use her beauty to get what she wanted. Masterson was the tomboy who really loved the hapless romantic caught in the middle of both of them, Stoltz, but didn't know how to make him love her.
And yes, this is from the grown woman who still listens to sappy songs and thinks her prince charming is still going to ride up on that white horse, even though I am happily married with a family.
It was the soundtrack to our generation, a time when you had to wonder just how much you could get your guy to love you without going too far and keep your dignity as well,
Does anyone else remember those feelings?
