Ever since I had that flash back session a couple of weeks ago, I've been on this quest to get my hands on old school slow jams from the 80's and 90's. I dug through all my old CD's, spent hours on Google searching for "80's love songs" and "90's hits", and got a little too download happy with iTunes. As I found song after song from my past, the memories came flooding back like a mo fo. Memories I had long forgotten about.
Dude, I forgot how much I used to love me some Whitney Houston. Her "I Wanna Dance with Somebody" brought me back to the days when I first discovered MTV, the good old days when MTV actually played videos (imagine that!). I also forgot just how cheesy the love songs were back in the day. I cringed as I listened to the songs I used to hate to love, songs like Michael Bolton's "Everything I Do" and Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On." But cheesy as they were, I ain't gonna lie, I wore down my cassette tapes listening to these songs over and over and over again. At the risk of sounding old, it must be said: they just don't make love songs like they used to. Love songs from the good ol' days used to make having a crush and falling in love and fighting and making up so damn fun. Those were love songs that you dedicated to your man on KMEL Love Lines with Theo Misahara. Those were love songs that you recorded on a mix tape for your lady. Those were love songs that you slow danced to in the garage at your friend's house party...
