It has been quite a challenge to be a blogger in Mexico. Even though 450 million people speak Spanish in the world, 21 countries have it as its native language and more than 100 million people have adopted it as their second language, it is not the language of globalization nor technology.
Women tend to live marginalized from technology, and this language divide doesn't help nor promote their involvment in the web. In Mexico there are aproximately 25 million users of internet, half of them are women. This doesn't translate in active web participation; women use the web to search and shop, not to express themselves directly.
For more than a year I have been developing the first platform for Spanish speaking women bloggers and it has been quite a challenge: Mujeres Construyendo (www.mujeresconstruyendo.com). The platform has been "in the air" for a month and it is in its Beta version. Empowerment through technology is a new concept and I am excited with this challenge.
I will keep you posted about our progress and the findings. Hope Blogher and Mujeres Construyendo can do something together soon.
