Like most of you I have made many New Year resolutions. Each time I have been motivated, inspired and ready to rebuild a new me. For example my most recent resolution which has been the same for the past several years is to lose weight. I learned from my prior efforts that one key to successful weight loss is preparation. So I purchased the latest fitness gear, exercise DVDs, and rounded up my support team to keep me accountable. Believing that I was off to great start I punched my flab square in the nose with a five day intense month long workout routine....more
Well, today I prepared the first recipe for healthy eating. It turned out that I really like quinoa and black lentils. [Editor's Note: Alanna Kellogg wrote this brilliant strategy post for saving money on food in 2008, predicting food prices would only get worse. My dear sweet sister Mary died on December 10th. After our mother died in 2001, Mary was the closest thing I had to a mother. I am the youngest of nine children, and, although I still have several living siblings, this loss - especially so close to the holidays - has been very hard to bear. I remember Mary as a fiercely independent woman who loved to truly experience life, travel, have adventures, and had a marvelously demented sense of humor. Her decline and death has left a hole in my heart, and it will take a long time for that to heal.
Dear Physical Form of Me:
I am sorry for the way I have treated you, talked down to you and just plain despised you. I feel awful. You have taken me from birth to here, today and I have given you grief and poison.
You are thirsty from too much soda, and hungry from not enough fruits and veggies. You store the loads of chocolate I eat, and flush the little amount of water I give you.
The dawn of a new year is usually the time when we think about how we would like for things to be in our lives, make resolutions for change, and then make plans for the future. In some respects, it might be compared to spring cleaning in January - get rid of what you don't want in order to make room for what you do want.
Step One: Love Yourself
Long before Oprah there existed a list of favourite things. Those things which make your life a little brighter. This is MY list...(actually it is an excerpt of a recent post on my blog Goannatree)
