Bubble be gone

When mine were babies, I was unable to breastfeed.  Both had trouble with gas from the bottles.  I would add a couple of drops of mylecon to the bottle before I shook it - reduced the bubbles by about 80%, which greatly helped their comfort and tummies.

I always vacuumed with them

I always vacuumed with them in my baby carrier.  The sound quieted them, and the movement put them to sleep.

When my son was a baby he

When my son was a baby he was extremely fussy and seemed to never sleep.  We found that any kind of motion helped him to drift off to sleep, so we would hold him and walk with him or lay him on his stomach and pat his back gently.  Sometimes if he was especially hard to get to sleep we would bundle him up and put him in the car seat and take a little ride.  A short ride around the neighborhood and he was out!

How to soothe a fussy baby...

When my babies were little, giving them the breast to nurse always calmed them down. I always paired that with gentle rocking and singing or humming quietly.  Thanks for the great giveaway!

hush little one

My babies liked if I took my index finger and gently stroked across their forehead, just above the eyebrows.   Cuddling and/or nursing was the next step.

When mine were younger..

When my kids were younger, one of the tricks that always seemed to work was a drive in the car.. It really did work!

Soothing the Belly

When I was little and would get colicky my mother would add a little cornstarch to my milk and that helped soothe my belly.

The worse diaper rash!

My son use to have the worse diaper rash. I would mix aquaphor with nystatin cream and that was the only thing that would help!

Fussy Baby

I find that soothing music or humming songs is soothing to a fussy baby...especially my little granddaughter...she seems to calm quickly with soft music.

Go for a ride

My best tip is to take the baby for a ride, whether it's in the car or stroller.  When I would get desperate and it was too dark or nasty outside, I'd stroll the baby in the house!

car rides lull them to sleep!

To calm our fussy babies my

To calm our fussy babies my husband would hold them closey to his chest and sing quietly. The rumbling baritone next to their ears worked wonders in soothing them!

rocking

My son really calms down when I hum to him and rock him gently.  This seems to work everytime.  Thanks so much.

Feather

I would feather the kids with my fingers/nails very lightly - it seemed to sooth them.  Thanks for the contest!

Use lavendar scented baby

Use lavendar scented baby bath and give your baby/toddler a nice warm bath in it. It works every time and makes them nice and calm and sleepy :)

Diaper Ick!

When my daughter was younger, she constantly had diaper rash - horrible, red, raw.  We had the worst time getting rid of it (we later found out this was one of the many side effects of the dairy allergy we hadn't known about).  The thing that soothed her the most was an oatmeal bath.  I'd grind up oats in the Cuisinart and then add them to a small bit of warm bath water.  I'd let her sit there for 10-15 minute while I read her books, and it helped.  It never went fully away (until we took her off dairy!), but it made a world of difference.  So easy and so cheap, too!

They always loved the dog,

They always loved the dog, whenever the dog went in front of them, they just laughed.

The Most Ridiculous

My daughter was usually calmed by the most ridiculous things ever.  Barking like a dog would send her from tears into a fit of laughter.  Buzzing my finger around as if it were going to get her; pretending to fall down, then springing right up.

Seems she always liked the surprising elements accompanied by funny noises.  And it's still such fun to pick her up from her teary moments.

singing

My daughter loved to hear me sing...anytime she was upset I'd start singing Over the Rainbow and she'd immediately calm down and usually fall fast asleep!

Upset tummy

sweet Ginger helps with upset tummy and nausia.  Do not use pickled since it is salty.

Gas helps and more

I have a slew of baby soothing tricks up my sleave... for gas I would always do the tried and true baby bicycle legs or laying them tummy side down on my legs and patting their backs. For teething, frozen fruit in a baby mesh feeder,  and if nothing else worked, nursing them always calmed them down immediately no matter what the problem. I still do that with my 14 month old daughter...I'm a human baby pacifier. ;)

The vibrating bouncy seat

The vibrating bouncy seat was the next best thing to a car ride for getting them quiet.

Have someone walk them around the room for
you.

When Olivia would cry my Dad or my husband would walk her tell she fell asleep. You can try massage and a relaxing bath if you do not have extra help.

Patting and Rocking

Both of my babies seemed to be big fans of being held and rocked while I patted them on the bottom. If that didn't work, a nice warm bath would usually do the trick!

Petting Forehead

When my Grandson is fiussy (this worked on my grown son when he was a baby too) I gently and softly rub in a circular motion on their foreheadwith the palm of my hand, seems to calm then, and they drift right off to sleep. Tried and true method for me!

Back rubs

Always calmed me as a child and it's one I enjoy "paying forward"

My son calls it "stuff"

My son is a drooler, so has the typical chin rash.  Plus, he gets really chapped cheeks.  So, every night, we put on the Aquaphor. One night, I must have been searching for words and said "I need to put some stuff on your cheeks."  Ever since, if he asks for "stuff," he means Aquaphor. :-)

Definitely helps with the drooly chin, and keeps the redness in the cheeks at bay. Also good for dry winter skin on those cold, arid nights. Love it!

music

I turn on some children's music and we sing and dance together.  Redirection is key.

Get in the car and just drive

When either of my daughters were fussy as babies or toddlers, an aimless ride in the car always seemed to do the trick, especially if the radio was on.  Something about the tunes and the motion worked.
