Smitten Kitchen's Blackberry Spin on a Passover Macaroon

Passover presents a unique challenge to cooks keeping kosher--the requirement to avoid leavening (thus, not cooking with yeast and flour) makes it tough to come up with delicious and interesting desserts that aren't the same old-same old seasonal fare. One traditional sweet is macaroons, since they are only made with a few ingredients that are all kosher for Passover. However, not everyone appreciates the annual appearance of traditional macaroons.
Deb of Smitten Kitchen recently received a copy of Super Natural Everyday, the newest cookbook from Heidi Swanson of 101 Cookbooks, and adapted a recipe from that book to make a blackberry and macaroon tart that's kosher for Passover.
"I suspect if you’ve been avoiding macaroons because you thought they could only be sticky hockey pucks found this time of year in cardboard cans (surely I’m not the only one familiar with these!), this recipe could be the open door to usher them back into your home," writes Deb.
