Square Peg Christianity?

Square Peg Christianity

by Rachelle Van Ryssen

Hmmm? I wonder what this picture has to do with Rachelle's newest Blog post? Well I guess you'll just have to wait a couple minutes to find out! ;) Stay tuned!

Are you a square peg Christian? I know for certain that I am but I haven't always been, yes I have always been a little different than my counterparts. Frankly it has taken a long time to realize just how wonderful that, that actually is.

In Exodus, Moses speaks about being set apart when the Israelites sinned against God by building a Golden Calf idol. Moses separated the people and those who chose to go with God even had to in some cases turn against their own family members and watch them go to their death! Can you imagine the pain in making such a decision? This certainly wasn't following the popular path. They chose God over every thing!

  1. Exodus 32:29

Then Moses said, “You have been set apart to the Lord today, for you were against your own sons and brothers, and he has blessed you this day.”

Jesus also warns us that to follow Him will bring many heart-ships, If you find being a Christian easy, you might not being doing it right. God wants us to love one another and that includes the people you can't stand! He wants you to love the guy who just stole your parking place, the kid who just gave you the finger! He wants you to love the loud mouths the foul mouths, the hookers, the players, the drinkers, gamblers and even harder to love the perfect people, you know the ones, who drive the perfect car, live in the perfect house with the perfect kids. God wants us to love people from other religions, God wants us to love Gay people, He wants us to love old people and teenagers!God wants us to love killers and rapist, abortionists. Poor people, people in jails. God loves them all!  He wants us to pray for them and if they ask for help in any way as Christian's we are to help them.

We as Christians are set apart, we are molded differently. Once we ask the Holy Spirit in,we are not supposed to fit in, and that is a good thing! Jesus died for all of us to have a way to Him.

When Jesus spoke about John the Baptist, He spoke of an unwavering man a true leader of men and a follower of God.

  1. Matthew 11:7

As John’s disciples were leaving, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed swayed by the wind?

Jesus wasn't then and still isn't looking for people who change with ever new gust of wind. Who’s ideals are created for making others comfortable who beliefs change with the temperament of the crowd, or what is politically correct and what is easy. Jesus warns us that He was persecuted and that if we follow Him we will be too. And yes He wants us to love our persecutors too.

  1. Matthew 5:12

Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

So I guess for me the answer is who do I want to be? Do I want to fit in? Of course! Do I want to go along with the crowd ? It sure would be easier! Do I want to be a round peg Christian or a Square Peg Christian?

I have decided that for me to be a good leader, first I must be a good follower. Jesus is my savior! Jesus is my hope! Jesus died for me, no one else on earth has done anything close to that for me, I love Him! I owe Him my life eternal and I am willing to be a “Square Peg Christian in a round hole kind of world!

Now it's time to ask yourself the same question.
