St. Jude and The Message of Hope
Yesterday we shared with you a small glimpse on Brizo's partnership with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and today I'm going to share with you a little bit more about St. Jude itself.
On the day that we got to spend visiting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis location, we got to hear about the partnership between Brizo and St. Jude, tour the Target House (1 of the 3 family housing buildings on campus), tour the hospital, and most importantly interact with the children.
Today, I'm going to share with you a little bit of what we did at the hospital and give you a photographic tour of the hospital.
First, I'd like to mention this again, that NO parent has to PAY for anything, including travel to and from St. Jude, lodging/housing, food, etc. What a tremendous organization to do this for so many families! And what a relief for these families. I can't imagine the financial burden it has to be to begin to think about the bills that are piling up.
Upon entering the hospital, you are welcomed with bright colors and friendly faces. Many of the hospital walls are painted with murals, varying in design. A great way to brighten the hospital and make the kids feel like they aren't walking down a hospital corridor.
The hospital offers classes and fun events for the patients and their siblings to attend. I love that St. Jude focuses on everyone in the family--offering events for patient siblings only. St. Jude also provides counseling for all family members.
And speaking of events for the kids to attend, Brizo hosted a day of fun activities for the kids, decorating doll houses, tile painting, and photo booth. This was such a fun time talking to the children and the parents. These families are amazing--the strength they have is unbelievable and the resilience these children have is inspiring! I got to help with tile painting.
Another big focus for St. Jude, and what they are known for, is their research facility; they have 182 labs at the Memphis location with the largest sickle cell research center in America. And because St. Jude relies on donations and is fortunate to get donations, they do not have to wait for grant money to do research. So donate!!
Also, another aspect that I absolutely love about St. Jude, is that when dealing with their patients, they talk to the patient and not just the parent. They make sure that the child in need is their focus and that they explain what they are doing to that particular child in a manner to help them understand. Another special touch St. Jude does. For every child, they make their food according to their specific dietary needs. Can you imagine having to make that many varying meals? And because they get many patients from all over the world, there are blue telephones throughout the hospital which are translation telephones.
Did you know that St. Jude offers dental, eye care treatments, etc to their patients and their families? There are pharmacies on site that are free for patients and their families. They also provide a school on campus so the children do not fall behind. They keep on giving!
What I loved the most, was the passion the people that work for St. Jude have--not just for their cause, but for the children and their job! It's amazing and so inspiring!! For example, the people who work in the office, have such passion for this place, just as much as a nurse or doctor. It made me want to be a part of this organization! And since their isn't a St Jude location near me, the best way I can be a part of this wonderful organization is to donate. You can do the same Here.
So thank you Brizo for brining us to Memphis to allow us to experience the miracle of St. Jude and the message of hope they bring! And thank you St. Jude for opening your arms to the #Blogger19! I will never forget this event and how life changing it was!!
**This trip was an all-expenses paid event by Brizo**
