Sweet Potato Flan
One thing many people love about holidays is the way it gives you a temporary green light to eat things you might normally avoid. Personally, I try not to eat sugar, but when it's a special occasion, I'll definitely have a piece of pie or cheesecake. For Thanksgiving, the traditional dessert is pumpkin pie, so of course we'll start with some tips on making that. Then if you'd like to try something new on the plate next to your slice of pie, here are lots of other delicious possibilities. If you have a favorite Thanksgiving dessert recipe that would make a good addition to the list, please leave your link in the comments.

Previously on Blogher: Pumpkin Recipes Galore, and Simple Rustic Apple Galette
First, don't miss all the pumpkin desserts in the recipes I shared when I wrote Cooking with Pumpkins. I won't repeat those here, so if Thanksgiving dessert has to be pumpkin for you, that list has some great ideas. Or, if you fancy a dessert with apples, you can't go wrong with the Rustic Apple Galette featured as part of Blogher's holiday videos.

Did you see this pumpkin cake with cream cheese frosting at "Dine and Dish"? It looks good too:

(It might be quite sweet too though)

P.S. Glad you like the photo, Kalyn. It's on the old side (my brother in law took it a couple of years ago but I really liked it - it reminds me of the really terrific dinner we had that night (which may well have been Thanksgiving!)

I had to make the photo larger to get it to even look like there was a person there at all... I am a bit challenged with figuring out how Alanna got hers to just show part of the photo though.

edit: OH!! I see that you already linked to the "Dine and Dish" pumpkin cake in your other post about pumpkin...

Just a note about the pumpkin cake roll; it really is quite sweet and could bear to have much less sugar. Otherwise, it's delicious though.
