Start A Healthy Heart Workout

You can keep your heart healthy while reducing stress and burning calories. How? Try to get 10 to 30 minutes of aerobic exercise each day. Even a small amount of activity can have a large effect on your overall heart health. It's not really important what you do to get yourself moving and your heart pumping, as long as you do something.

Do you have young kids? Put on some fun music and dance around for a couple of songs with them (it's actually pretty fun, even if you're all by yourself). Dancing around the house can lift your spirits and qualifies as aerobic exercise. The best part is, you don't have to be a good dancer. Good dancing and bad dancing have the same health benefits. Dancing Queen by Abba, has always been one of my personal favorites. I also went through a Frank Sinatra My Way phase. Do you have a favorite song to dance to?

Walk, ride a bike, use a treadmill, take an aerobics class, dance...It doesn't matter what you do, just as long as you are doing it. Find something that works for you and do it. Start slow, even if it's just five minutes a day, and gradually work your way up to 30 minutes. It's never to late to start yourself on a healthy heart workout.

Hi Rachel.

Thanks for your comment.  Heart disease is a leading cause of death for women (more women die from heart disease than breast cancer)...and less women survive heart attacks than men.

Thanks for your link, I'll check it out.  Here is a post I did that you may find informative.

Catherine -Thanks for the reminder that just short spurts of heart rousing exercise can really make a difference to our health. I wan't aware that heart disease was such a big problem for women, but recently read some details why on w2wlink.com in http://www.w2wlink.com/Articles/Risk-Heart-Disease... ( http://www.w2wlink.com/Articles/Risk-Heart-Disease... ). Taking care of my family and going back to work is adding some stress to my life and exercise has been falling off the priority list. One thing I can offer: My two toddler boys are getting older and can generally take care of themselves in the playground. When I find myself just standing around while they play, I remind myself to get moving too. There is usually something I can do (even climbing up and down the steps up into the jumgle gym) that gets my heart beating faster. And it's fun!

You're right.  It's never too late (or too early).  Thanks for the links.

Thanks for the reminder! Especially with the holidays and heavy eating coming up, this is a great time to get on track with a workout plan.

I'm super impressed with moms who manage to do it all, which is why I'm trying to create good habits before I have kids.  My problem is that I get bored easily, but I love mixing it up with spinning, yoga, and/or dance classes.

I did a couple posts on getting back on track, with some articles that've helped me, plus some more current deals that may be of interest to those who want to get to a gym.  If you hunt around, there are decent memberships out there that include classes for free.  Under $15 a month isn't that much to pay for your good health!
