The Susan G. Komen for the Cure Organization has recently released an update on The State of Breast Cancer. It provides basic information on how far we've come in the search for a cure, and includes a letter from Nancy G. Brinker, Founder.
Highlights of progress indicate that research is on the march: "Breast cancer is not one but many diseases," treatable in various ways. New drugs are available tailored to the needs of patients. Mammography is leading to earlier diagnoses. Most importantly, awareness of the disease has been raised. Pink is in--2 million plus breast cancer survivors are alive in the USA today.
Around the world 1.1 million women will be diagnosed with the disease this coming year and 410,000 will die from it.
USA--240,000 diagnosed in the upcoming year, and 180,000 of those will have the worst invasive type of breast cancer. 40,000 women will not make it.
Because the causes of breast cancer aren't conclusive, further research is necessary. Risk Factors
Early Detection is a must, and just may extend your life.
