What does it mean that three of the four candidates for leadership of the U.S. either come from or are elected officials from the Western States? Changes that folks knew would occur in the future are happening now. Welcome to the future.
Demographics are swirling, churning and morphing the status quo big time. Senator from the state of Arizona, man born in Hawaii, woman governor of Alaska, and a guy from the east coast want to lead our nation. Interesting distribution from all sorts of perspectives. Sub-groups are being courted in a way we never dreamed possible.
My own biased take on meta statements is that ethics wil be more important than ethnics and that ideologues will not compete well against innovative ideas. Single issue voters disappear when couples working three to five jobs between them face foreclosure, when the lives of their loved ones have been shortened due to lack of health care, and their kids can find no jobs but the military where they will go to fight for corporate rather than national interests. Yes, this new generation and the demographic shifts have already changed the game.
Apart from my own passionate interests, the cultural anthropologist in me is fascinated in watching this first real competition to lead an emergent America.
