Stirring the Pot in 2013

2013 Posts

I'm fairly new to this blogging thing, so I spend a lot of time watching and learning from the pros.  And, the pros are all sharing year-end posts with their popular blogs.  In order to follow in the footsteps of the big blogs on the block, I'm going to throw my hat in the ring.

As we move into 2014, I'm sharing a few of my most "controversial" posts.  Now, I don't write to be controversial, but I am drawn to write about controversial topics.  And, my goal is always to try to do so in a way that moves dialogue forward.  Sometimes I'm more successful than others.

1.  Four Reasons this Christian Family Supports Marriage Equality - By far the closest thing to "viral" of anything I've written, this one was read by a few folks over at Believe Out Loud.  I'm forever grateful for the opportunity to share this, and for those who helped me find the courage to write and share...with a prayer as I pushed "submit".

2.  SNAP - We Must Do Better - With all due credit to Stephen Colbert and David R. Henson for their inspiring words here.  In a nutshell, judge less...feed more.  This one can be found on BlogHer and also Ministry With the Poor.

3.  Pro-Life is Not the Opposite of Pro-Choice - Um, perhaps the title of this one says it all?  My one effort at touching the third rail.

4.  Let Us Shine in Sochi - I was never able to compete in the Olympics, but was fortunate enough to have the amazing opportunities to experience the thrill of international competition.  I shared some thoughts on why I don't think a US boycott in Sochi would be the best way to let all the athletes shine.

5.  Forgiven - Sometimes being honest about motherhood can bring out the critics, (I was once declared the worst mother ever for sharing that my children watch PBS) but my skin is getting tougher.  Most days.  It perhaps grew a few extra layers when this blog was shared over at Mamapedia.

And, a bonus...five personal Favorite "No Controversy" Posts!  Although, I'm sure there could be something to argue about here.  But, I'll let you decide.

1.  Seeing God through My Camera Lens - My boys and a frog...and seeing God at work in the wide world.

2.  "Us" Care - Oh, if only we could go back to this little oasis in the woods.

3.  May Her Garden Always Grow - This year we lost a beautiful and loving soul.  One who planted so many seeds of kindness in this world.

4.  Just a Cup of Milk - A short reflection on being grateful to be able to fill little tummies.  Shared over on Church World Service as well.

5.  It Takes a Village  - Or, my "I'm not so crafty but I love my Christmas Mantel anyway!" declaration.  It was definitely a highlight of my writing year to be able to share over at Young People's Ministries.

Thank you for joining me on my little reflection of writing through the year.  May you write a beautiful story in this new year.  Happy 2014!
