I wrote a post recently mourning the loss of a soap opera veteran. She was the matriarch of a show I watched with my grandmother, when I was a girl. My nanny called her soap operas "her stories". She got me hooked on Days of Our Lives. I blame my mother for getting me hooked on Dark Shadows and The Young & the Restless.
I can only blame myself for General Hospital.
I know that a generation of kids grew up watching soap operas as a staple in their household. I cannot imagine that the current generation cuddles up on the couch with their moms watching the story lines produced by this decade of soap opera fare.
So, I wonder about the future of soap operas. I (mostly) stopped watching years ago. Although occasionally I can be found hunkered down with my tiny kitchen television screen enjoying the guilty pleasure of "Y&R". When no one is looking.
So, who is watching? Are you a closet soap opera fan or do you proudly admit to it?
DeeDee blogs at Fiddledeedee, when she's not sneaking around watching her stories.

My daughter curl up to the computer to watch General Hospital.I have been watching it since 1975. I tell whoever will listen that I watch soaps. I watch Days of our Lives, also. I also watch mexican soaps. I used to watch the mexican ones when I was small along with my mother, father, and sisters. Even my grandmother. That was a long time ago.
