I’ve always had a soft spot for celebrities who endorse weight loss products. Sure, they’re beautiful and famous, and yes, they’re making scads of money on these endorsements. But they’re also individuals who have already had a weight problem and are opening themselves up to criticism should they put the pounds back on.
Take Kirstie Alley for example. She shouted (er, croaked) Jenny Craig’s praises from the rooftops while revealing her newly-svelte figure, and she publicly renounced her former lifestyle — even poking fun of herself with her short-lived series, “Fat Actress.” But no sooner than you could blink, it seemed she slipped back into her old habits (and Valerie Bertinelli was right there to take her place).
Now, it seems the latest endorser to fall off the wagon is none other than Jared Fogle, ” the Subway guy.” In recent photos, Jared has emerged looking like he’s had one too many mayo-laced sandwiches. While he doesn’t seem to be anywhere near his pre-Subway proportions (Subway reports he’s lost 245 pounds), it looks like he’s struggling with his food demons again.
As someone who has yo-yoed for years myself, I can’t help but feel a little bad for both Kirstie and Jared. Even though they’ve celebrated their success with us (all the way to the bank), it’s still gotta hurt on the fall back down. What do you think? Do they deserve a break, or do they deserve gossip since they put themselves into the situation in the first place?
I'd truly appreciate it if you'd comment on my original blog post at BeautyXpose.
