Summer Job Search Success Secrets

Summer is a great time to job search! What?!? you may be thinking. Everyone is on vacation, or taking it a little easier than usual (and that's what I want to do, too.
The biggest summer job search secret is that summer is a GREAT time to find a job!
Why is it a great time to find a job?
- Less competition!
While people drop out of job search mode for the summer, employers are still hiring, so competition drops off, too.
- Fewer gatekeepers!
You know, those people who stand between job seekers and the hiring managers, recruiters, and HR staff members, and don't let job seekers speak with the people they need to talk with. Gatekeepers often take a week or two off, usually during July and August (if they are parents). This means that the people they usually guard are not as well-protected. If you call, they may answer their phones themselves, giving a chance to connect person-to-person rather than technology-to-technology. Maybe important information can be exchanged, and "the deal" can be closed.
- More mellow attitudes!
In many industries and organizations, the pace of work slows down a bit, so things are less rushed, stress is lower, and people may be more positive and responsive to job seekers.
So, putting a job search "on the back burner" and waiting until September to get back into serious job search mode may be a mistake. That perfect job might have been filled in August.
Good luck with your job search!
