Support Cook for the Cure with Strawberry MALT Cheesecake!

It’s an honor to write this post today. I’m thrilled to share that two beloved companies have teamed up to assist the global leader in the fight against breast cancer, Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
KitchenAid is celebrating something really special this year with the 10th anniversary of the Cook for the Cure campaign. This is a multifaceted endeavor to present a grand donation of no less than $450,000 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure in 2011. In the last ten years, KitchenAid has raised over $8 million for the cause through the sale of pink cooking products, celebrity chef auctions and grass-roots initiatives.
Debbie O’Connor, senior manager of brand experience for KitchenAid brings it home saying, “Cook for the Cure was created to give those who love to cook and entertain a number of ways to support the cause by doing what they do best. It adds another layer of purpose to one of life’s great pleasures, cooking and enjoying food with family and friends.”

Buy KitchenAid Products ~ the pink ones. A donation is made for each Cook for the Cure product sold.
Host a Party with a Purpose ~ Be a part of 1,000 Cooks for the Cure, July 15th – 24th
The idea is simplicity itself. Invite your family, friends or colleagues for a dinner party, barbecue, office party, dessert sampling or any kind of get-together from July 15-24, 2011. Instead of wine, flowers or some other token of appreciation, ask guests to bring a donation in any amount for Komen for the Cure. The funds can be designated for either the organization’s national efforts or local breast cancer initiatives.
Debbie O’Connor states, “It’s a simple add-on to entertaining that can raise hundreds or even thousands for the cause.”
Those interested in hosting a party are encouraged to visit http://CookfortheCure.com to register and obtain a unique host identification number. Registered hosts will be given access to an information kit that includes party ideas, recipes and donation gathering information. To help hosts connect with guests and others planning parties, KitchenAid will feature 1,000 Cooks for the Cure as an event on its Facebook Page and provide updates through Twitter in the days leading up to the event.

Pass the Plate ~ Villeroy & Boch is offering a special “Plate with a Purpose” for Cook for the Cure.
Cooks can participate in the Pass the Plate Program by presenting a friend or family member with a homemade culinary creation on a serving plate that can be “re-gifted” to further support the cause.
The Pass the Plate component of Cook for the Cure generates a $5 donation every time an individually numbered Villeroy & Boch serving plate is passed on and registered at CookfortheCure.com/passtheplate. Using the unique registration code, participants can track the status and travels of their platters by visiting CookfortheCure.com and clicking on the “Pass the Plate” tab on the right.
For the program’s 10th anniversary, a new plate featuring artwork created by PBS cooking show host Jacques Pépin has made its debut. To purchase the plate and start passing, call 1-800-VILLEROY for a Villeroy & Boch store near you.

In honor of Cook for the Cure, I wanted to make some thing PINK that also had cherries on it, like the gorgeous new platter…
I present you with Strawberry MALT Cheesecakes! These little beauties are reminiscent of the good ol’ days when malt shops and juke boxes were part of daily life. Serve these up at YOUR Cook for the Cure Party and your friends will twist-n-shout all night long.
Recipe: Strawberry Malt Cheesecakes ~ Cook for the Cure
- 36 Vanilla Wafers
- 24 oz. cream cheese, softened (3 boxes)
- 1 cup malted milk powder
- ½ cup sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 cup strawberry jam
- 2 drops red food coloring
- Pinch of salt
- 3 eggs
- ¾ cup sour cream
- sweet whipped cream (1 ½ cup heavy cream + ¼ cup powdered sugar, whipped)
- 36 maraschino cherries
- Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F.
- Place 36 vanilla wafers in lined muffin tins. Using a small glass, press the vanilla wafers until crushed to fill the bottom of each liner.
- Using an electric mixer, cream the cream cheese, malted milk powder and sugar until fluffy—3 minutes.
- Add the vanilla, jam, and food coloring. Beat until well combined.
- Scrap the bowl and add the salt, eggs and sour cream; beat until smooth.
- Use a 1/3 cup measuring cup to scoop the cream cheese mixture into each muffin liner.
- Bake for 30-45 minutes until the centers are just set. Check at 30 minutes with a toothpick. The center should be still a little loose, but mostly solid.
- Cool in the fridge for 4 HOURS. Then top with whipped cream and a cherry.
- Decorate with half a straw for the “malt” look.
Preparation time: 20 minute(s)
Cooking time: 30-45 minute(s)
Number of servings (yield): 36 individual cheesecakes
