Surviving Single-Parenthood

Hi there. I'm Terri and I'm a single mom.

I've been a single mom for 11 years. My daughter is 12 years old. At some later date, I'll go into the story of how I became a "single" mom, and why for the past 5 years it's been just the two of us, since her donor isn't a part of her life at all any more. But, since this is my first post...I think I'll keep it simple for now, and just tell you about who I am.

I'm 44 years old, but I certainly don't think like a middle-aged person. I like to believe that I'm younger than my age. :)

I work full time as an office manager for a manufacturing company. My boss is one of those people that has a Type A personality, and is also very high-strung with a very short fuse. The man makes me nuts, and there are days when I dread going to work. To me and my friends, he is affectionately known as "the DQ" which is short for Drama Queen...even though he's not really a "queen"...the name just seems to fit. Although there has often been some confusion when I'll say something like "I had a DQ kind of day"...some people tend to think that means I'm going to hit the local Dairy Queen.

I have an awesome group of chick-friends. I love them all dearly...although...sometimes we get a little TOO sisterly and have our spats...I wouldn't trade them in for anything in the world. I also have some friends that are "non-chick" know who you are...and I love all of you too. :)

For fun...I like bonfires, playing bingo, reading, facebooking, and recently discovered the joys of flea marketing via my very first trip to Shipshewana last week.

I have 3 brothers and one sister, as well as 11 nieces and nephews that are related to me by blood. I have several honorary nieces and nephews as well, by marriage and by friendships.

My daughter, Dakota is an only child, although we do have frequent "weekend visitation" with her best friend since first grade - Bailey. :)

Being an "only" Dakota is very mature and responsible for her age. Sometimes I forget that she IS only 12, and have to remind myself to not put so much on her.

We have a dog. His name is the fish. He is a wonderful companion for Dakota, and very protective of her.

I know the boss is going to be coming back soon, so I'll write more when I get another chance. This whole blogging thing is new to me, so let me know how I'm doing occasionally. :)
