Hiram Monserrate, a former police officer and councilman was sworn in Wednesday to be the new state senator in Albany, N.Y.

He is also under probation and is facing charges for assaulting his girlfriend who had to be taken to the hospital. Monserrate slashed his girlfriend's face with a piece of glass during a jealous rage which result in her needing 25 stitches! It comes to no surprise that his family was there, but of course his girlfriend was absent.

How can a man like this be taking office? I would think the women in Albany would have been up in arms and protesting his new senate position.

If he was sworn in, you have to question, what kind of people are representing us in congress?

Yesterday was a SAD day for women in general and especially for abused women.

I am going to take a good look at your picture, because if I am ever in need of a jury of my peers, I would be very afraid to see your face there.

A person (no matter their political status) in the United States of America is ALWAYS innocent until proven guilty no matter how much you dislike him/her or the crime that has ALLEDGEDLY been commited.  You can't pick and choose which parts of the law you think are ok and which you don't like, when you do you become as much of a criminal.

At this point you are close to commiting libel and defamation of character, should you have to prove yourself innocent?

I never said he was guilty. But someone who has not been cleared yet of a possible crime, should not be sworn in as a Senator. He first needs to be proven INNOCENT before he can become a Senator.

You state he is "facing charges" which means he hasn't been charged yet alone convicted.  But you already have him sentenced to death in your head and your words.

WHile what he is accused of doing is dbeyond deplorable, he is still Innocent Until Proven Guilty in a court of law.  Not in the court of you.
