The One Tiny Thing That Can Make Your Dream a Reality

BlogHer Original Post

The Dream. Whether we've confronted ourselves or not, we all have one. So, what are you doing to make it a reality? Often, the road to The Dream seems overwhelming - a mountain of impossible tasks and daunting sacrifices lined with insecurity and doubt - otherwise, The Dream would be The Reality already.

So, how do you tackle this nagging vision? This idea that will not go away? According to Susannah Conway, you tackle The Dream one tiny piece at a time:

Enough with the to do lists and procrastinating and excuses. Enough with the fear of failure....I’ve made a deal with myself – I will do either one thing, or work for one hour, towards my dream, every day. That’s it. Just one thing or one hour. The idea is to break through the fear, push past the inertia and overwhelm, and do something, anything, that takes me one tiny step closer to what I want. The rest of the day I can lie on the sofa if I want to (which obviously I wouldn’t do) so long as I do my one thing.

Just One Thing

Personally, I can attest to this method. After 15+ years of daring myself, I finally started an organic farm on my family's land in North Dakota last summer. It was wildly inconvenient, socially risky and financially unwise - easily, the most satisfying I've ever done.

And I did it one seed at a time.

Dreams and Dirt,
