A Tale of Two Tables
By FlyingC on August 19, 2014
Today I got to do a little bit of painting. I had two tables that I’ve been wanting to do for a while. The first was a Duncan and Fyfe occasional table. I had to deconstruct the top because the bottom of the cabinet was badly warped, but it still looks great! I finished the cute thing using Real Milk Paint in Cobalt. I LOVE this color! The table was white before, so I did a little chipping with a putty knife to give it some shabby charm. Then I finised up with an espresso burnishing glaze. Did I mention I LOVE this color?
The second table was really a project I’ve been working on for a while. I wanted to make a table with a faux zinc top. So I started by applying Silver leaf to the table top. Twice. Then I tried waxing it with Country Chic antique wax, but it was still too shiny. So I painted the bottom of the table in Country Chic’s Vanilla frosting and thought about that zinc top for a while. Then I waxed the bottom with Country Chic’s Natural, followed by the Antiquing wax to bring out the detail. And thought about that zinc top some more. I finally decided that I needed to wash the top with paint to take down some of the shine. So first I washed it with the Vanilla Frosting and waxed it, but then it looked too white. So I washed it with Pebble Gray, and it was juuust right. (Finally!) Then a coat of Natural wax, and just a tiny bit of Antiquing was to age it, and I was done. Unfortunately, the pictures do not do the top of this table justice. In the close up picture, you can see a little bit of the metallic and the aging, but in the full picture, it doesn’t show up very well.
I also managed to finish up a custom project for a client, so I was a busy little painter today! My next project is a black on black dresser, and I can’t wait to start it!! Do you have a piece you’d like to have redone? These paints make it a breeze!
