Tales of Beedle the Bard Coming to A Store Near You

You knew this was coming didn't you? You really didn't think that J.K. Rowling would release only a limited edition of Tales ofBeedle the Bard to only a handful of people did you? Of course she wouldn't. Tales of Beedle the Bard will be appearing in stores near you just in time for the winter holiday season. Adding to that holiday giving spirit Rowling has signed over the royalties from the book to The Children's High Level Group charity, which supports institutionalized children.

Many fans had despaired when last year they found out there were only seven originals in existence, only one of which was for sale. Frankie Diane said, " It was like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory's golden tickets come to life." Readers are happy to hear that there actually two versions of book being released. Amazon.com is releasing an exclusive collector's edition. It is hardbound with imitation moonstones and gems and reminiscent of their handmade copy written in Rowlings own handwriting, which they bought at auction last year for a mere $3.98 million. It's a beautiful edition but at $100 it's a bit expensive for many people. Like Ginny I'm wondering if anyone will shell out the bucks for the collector's edition. Liz at Jedi's Archives has pre-ordered her copy and is considering it her semi-birthday gift.

The standard edition of the book, a paperback edition with a few less illustrations, is available for pre-order for less than $10 on most sites (list price is $12.99 in the US, $14.50 Canadian) making the much more affordable option. Anita would love to have the collector's edition but is pleased to get any edition.

I want the collectors edition SO MUCH but obviously I don’t have that kind of money, since I’m just a poor undergrad student. Maybe I will save up and hope there are still some left when I get the money and if not then it was not meant to be. I am happy just to get a copy of it and a JKR book for under $8.00 can not be beat.

Whether you pay $100 or less than $10 The Tales of Beetle and the Bard will be the must-have book this December.

Don't tell anyone that I bought the $100 version. I could never justify. Screaming "I'm such a big fan!!!!" wouldn't cut it. Maybe if I say "It's for the kids..." or "...charity."

Hmm.

Marketing genius. I'll buy it but I'll be grouchy about it. :-)

When I read the release was coming I was very excited.  I order the collectors edition for myself (and that first long-ogg grandkid, whenever he/she gets here who will own all the HP stuff I've collected)

I ordered the less expensive version, so I could put the collectors one up and keep it nice.

I'm very excited that we get this reference.  Now we just have to wait for Jo's encyclopedia.
