Talk a Walk: Chelsea Market/Meatpacking District in NYC
By daytripsrock20 on April 03, 2014
If you have the opportunity to visit New York City, take a walking tour of the old Meatpacking District – also known as Chelsea Market. The cobblestoned streets are chock full of history!
Start your sightseeing journey inside Chelsea Market itself; an old landmark building which was formerly a factory. (www.chelseamarket.com) There are several eateries, shops, and interesting artwork; the inside structure of the building is guaranteed to hold your interest. You might even hear some live jazz; depending on the time of your visit. By the way: The Food Network is headquartered here and tapes some of its shows in this building; unfortunately, the tapings are not open to the public.
Whether you take this tour on your own or with a group (www.foodsofny.com/chelseamarket), your visit will be enjoyable because of the historical transformation of the once very-daunting meatpacking area--into one of the most trendy and chic neighborhoods in Manhattan!
And, of course, do not forget to sample something "yummy" from one of the eateries in the building before heading outdoors to continue your tour. This tour is one of my favorites!!
