I remember where I was when I saw my first episode of American Idol, and when. It was the Season One finale in 2002.I was in a hotel room in Seattle. My significant other and I were taking a rare break during one of those vacations that seems to be more about getting from one place to another than relaxing. Watching Kelly Clarkson, and knowing a star was being born?...more

A webcast producer at the time, I wasted no time in inviting them into the studio to play for a show. My rationale was purely selfish; I wanted to see them in what amounted to a private show for me and my staff. From there, it snowballed and I rarely missed an opportunity to catch them playing where ever that might be, including a street corner downtown during lunch hour....more

The Playlist that Pulled Me Through Cancer Treatment and Recovery

It’s happened to me before, once after a terrible breakup, and once during an awful day job, writing adventure travel brochures for the elderly. The breakup ruined The Band’s entire discography for me, and the copywriting gig ruined Tina Turner’s greatest hits. It’s been years, and I still can’t get through “Up on Cripple Creek” or “Simply the Best” without breaking into a cold sweat. ...more
