Why I should not be allowed to think about things.

I love music.LOVE love. Those of you who've suffered through all the incarnations of my radio show know what I like, which is almost everything between the 50s and the 90s, with a couple handsful of random songs from 2000 to now. I also like classic country music, but not too much of 'today's' country. I love to turn up the radio and sing at the top of my lungs - in the house, in the car...in the grocery store. There are a ton of misheard lyrics that I sang incorrectly for years, and I still do, because it's fun....more

The Soundtrack to My Life

Have you ever had a moment where you’re listening to the radio, your iPhone, or music player of choice, and a song comes that sparks something deep inside of you?Not just a ‘I LOVE this song,’ kind of reaction or a ‘This is my jam!’ thought, but more of a moment where you feel like you’re suddenly in a movie or a TV show and the song that starts playing represents your life at that exact moment.Anyone? Flashy New Hip Hop Drama 'Empire' Started as a Hot Mess, But It's Getting Better Already

I was excited just like anyone else when FOX decided to launch a new show with a diverse cast. Set in the worlds of hip hop, drugs, and centered on the African American community, Empire premiered with amazing ratings.   But after viewing the first episode I was for, lack of a better word, a bit underwhelmed.  With a cast like Taraji P. Henson, Terrence Howard, and Gabourey Sidibe I was expecting…well I don’t know what I was expecting, but it definitely wasn’t the stereotypical hot mess I came across. ...more
I've been watching and enjoying Empire. My only complaint was this week when Gladys Knight was ...more

Sounds from Down Under Blog Series: Day 2

The Bee Gees were a pop music group that was formed in 1958. The group's line-up consisted of brothers Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb. The trio were successful for most of their decades of recording music, but they had two distinct periods of exceptional success: as a rock act in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and as prominent performers of the disco music era in the late 1970s....more

Flashback Friday: Lovefool

I was in the car this weekend and I was flipping through the radio stations. Two of my go-to stations are 90’s on 9 and Pop2K on Sirius XM. They play the songs of my childhood, teenage and college years. A song will come across the radio, and I will instantly flashback to a certain point in my life. The memories will start filling my head: where I was, who I was with… the music makes my mind drift to places of the past…I smile, thinking of the those times....more

Music Review: Therapy

Going down my followers list on twitter one night and following back everyone that follows me, I ran across a Hip Hop artist from England, who calls himself Blessin.  Usually this isn’t such a big deal twitter is full of underground/indie hip hop artists, DM’ing you with links to their music; honestly I’ve discovered some real talent on twitter saying some real things.  What struck me at first about this guy, was his tweets, not the usual indie rapper, who already thinks he’s Kanye or Tupac-there was no ego to Blessin just him promoting himself and tweeting what he thinks and feel...more

Sia’s ‘Elastic Heart’ Controversy Is Gorgeous

I was shocked like most when Sia’s ‘Chandelier’ music video popped up on Vevo last year, but in a delightful way. Sia entrusted tween Maddie Ziegler, from Dance Moms, to display her eerie and hypnotizing dancing performance. The result was absolutely gorgeously weird, and artsy. Maddie dressed in a nude leotard and a blond pixie wig, the now 12-year old mesmerized us with her dance as Sia sang her heart out....more
