Freaky Friday

Happy Friday! Hope all is well....today I would like to share a commercial that I wrote for the Tide-to-go Pen contest a  few years back.  I also star in the video and worked very hard on it so people like you could watch it over and over again, hopefully! It's a 30-sec. commercial and it's in black and white. I paid a lot of attention to detail, from props and costumes all the way to choosing how I wanted it edited. My acting coach always says,  PAY ATTENTION TO DETAIL....more

New Dungeons & Dragons Rules Embrace Diverse Gender Identities, Sexual Orientation

Yep, I'm that kind of geek. I first played Dungeons & Dragons — the original edition — back in high school in the early 80s. Now my son plays. I was thrilled, therefore, to discover that the new version of D&D, which officially launches next week, is clearly and deliberately inclusive of a diverse range of gender identities, gender expressions, and sexual orientations....more

The Most Important Lesson I Taught My Daughters I Learned from Halle Berry

When I hear the name Halle Berry, I immediately think of three things: her gorgeous face, her adorable pixie cut, and her messy break-ups. She is often in the press for her impeccable red-carpet looks, her cosmetic company endorsements, and her roller coaster of a love life. However, when it comes to giving parenting advice, her name doesn't appear on any lists that I know of. Nevertheless, one of the most important lessons I ever taught my daughters is a lesson I learned from Miss Halle Berry herself. Funny thing is, I doubt that she even knows what a perfect example she is. ...more

My Reading List

I'm the type of person who always has a stack of books taller than me on my reading list.  I've got a bookshelf in my room filled mostly with books I haven't read yet, about 20 samples on my iPad, and a Goodreads account with more books than I can remember.  Somehow though, I always want more books.  I'm always looking for that one that's going to be can't-put-it-down, change-your-life kind of a book, so my list keeps growing....more

Toyota, What Are You Trying To Sell Us Exactly?

Toyota makes some pretty good vehicles. Jim has a truck that just won’t die. It really looks like it should kick the bucket any moment and that it might be held together by chewing gum and dirt that’s been stuck on for decades, but it just keeps purring like a very old kitten with sleep apnea. I have no idea how many miles that poor truck has on it, but it just keeps going and going as if it were powered by the Energizer Bunny. It’s kind of amazing. It’s probably the best investment Jim ever made, not counting marrying me, of course....more

Appropriate or Not? My Thoughts on Booty Shorts and See Through Clothes

Recently, I've been in a rant on social media about appropriate dressing in public. I understand it's summer and it's hot, but that does not give girls the freedom to expose their bodies for all to see. Shorts are so short, you can see butt cleavage, along with see-through clothes with only bras underneath....more

“20 Feet From Stardom” - Fun DVD!

“Da Do Run Run Run, Da Do Run, Run”… If you remember this song, you will especially enjoy the new DVD release of the documentary, “20 Feet From Stardom” a music and reminiscence filled ode to the back-up singer. Those women, and men, that added their voices to early R&B songs, sung by Phil Spector‘s girl groups like Darlene Love and The Blossoms, to rockers like the Rolling Stones, to the trios and quartets that sing a few feet behind the main acts of today like Bruce Springsteen, Bette Midler, Stevie Wonder. You may not know the singers by name or by sight, but you will know them by ear. A talented bunch, they sang everything, from “do wop, de wahs, to the now classic line, “it’s just a shot away” (Merry Clayton on “Gimme Shelter”)....more

From Mercury Retrograde Fog To Fun July 4th Weekend!

Finally, finally, Mercury stops its Retrograde motion as of July 1, 2014 and goes Direct. Don’t get sloppy now and forget to the check details, back up electronic gadgets or assume you know best “the way to San Jose” without  a map. It will take a few days for Mercury’s winged feet to get up to forward speed and dispel any murkiness we’ve had to deal with for the last 3 weeks. So continue vigilance and watch out for any snafus. However, by the Holiday weekend, things are clearer and the pace quickens. There is great potential for any social occasion that might pop up – the Moon will be in Venus ruled, charming, flirtatious Libra early Friday morning July 4th....more
